Reading Books Over and Over

  • February 19, 2015 9:08 pm

I have a shelf of children’s books in my office. Some are in pristine condition, hardly been opened. Others are so worn they are falling apart–evidence of a child’s love.

It probably doesn’t come as any surprise to you that children gain attachment for certain books. Give them a choice, and they’ll select these books for Mom or Dad to read to them…over and over, the same books. It’s a little maddening.

Here’s a great quotation by Oscar Wilde:

“If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.”

–Oscar Wilde

Kids are Reading Ebooks More and More

  • December 26, 2014 9:30 am

Some of us older folks may still prefer reading by physically holding a book in our hands, but kids are turning to ebooks more and more. Here’s an article by Jeremy Greenfield on the Forbes website:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeremygreenfield/2013/01/31/if-kids-are-our-future-our-future-is-ebooks/

Writes Mr. Greenfield: “The next wave of the ebook revolution is coming and it’s going to be led by kids. While just under a quarter of U.S. adults are reading ebooks, some 54% of kids are reading them — that’s more than double.”

Like it or not, ebooks are taking over the book market. That’s one of the reasons Grandma Bubbles Books are turning to this format.

We wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

Some storybook characters never go out of style. One of them is Peter Rabbit, created by Beatrix Potter in 1893. For a delightful glimpse into the author’s life, check out “Miss Potter.” It’s a charming movie.

Free E-books for Emergent Readers

I found this website with free e-books for emergent readers. One is even offered in Spanish. I like the vivid photographs. I like the interesting subject material. I like the slideshare feature. And the e-books are printable. I’ll be passing on other such links in the future.
